Fundraising
There are many ways in which our trustees and supporters raise money for us. Previous sponsored activities include triathlons, straightening ridiculously curly hair, climbing Mont Blanc, growing a moustache and kite surfing across Antarctica - not, we should point out, all undertaken by the same person! For a more comprehensive list of the weird and wonderful fundraisers, see below.
The Foundation has hosted many events in the past, from wine tasting with Olly Smith, a night at the Wimbledon Dogs, to two very fancy-pants balls in London. New events are often in the pipeline and we will keep our supporters up to date with future dos through social media as well as the Get Involved page.
The Foundation hosts an annual fundraiser called OUCH; a cricket match between Alex's alma maters Oxford University and Charterhouse School. The afternoon is first and foremost about friends, family and supporters spending a jolly day together with a pinch of competition thrown in, but since our first OUCH in 2003 the matches have raised a not too shabby £29,146!
Also, the Foundation has a permanent endowment that earns a healthy annual interest, meaning we are able to donate to brilliant causes regardless of separate fundraising activities. The endowment also covers our very low overheads (historically around £400 per year), so all the money raised goes directly to charity.
We have received a great deal from supporters who have asked for donations in lieu of flowers at a funeral, of presents at a wedding or anniversary. We also receive a number of standing orders, which are fantastic as they mean we have a predictable flow of income.
